Neil Munro

Composer Guitarist Teacher
Neil Munro is a composer, guitarist and teacher based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

As a guitarist, he has performed in a large variety of different situations, with musicians from widely diverging styles.

As a teacher, he has taught literally thousands of people how to play the guitar; he currently teaches in the music department of a prominent Edinburgh school.

In the field of composing, his work is similarly varied, ranging from orchestral music to pieces for school jazz bands. His works for the concert hall include several guitar pieces, a wind quintet, a suite for soprano saxophone and piano, a duet for viola and cello, a piece for chamber orchestra, original pieces and arrangements for big band and some works for guitar quartet. His music has received many performances, broadcasts and recordings in many parts of the world.

His work for educational use includes an ongoing series for flute ensemble, several studies for guitar, a piece for school orchestra and pieces for use with various ensembles, including an ongoing series for school jazz band. Several of these have been used with success in student concerts.
